WOMEN ARE HEROES - Trailer

"The Women project wants to underline their pivotal role and to highlight their dignity by shooting them in their daily lives and posting them on the walls of their country.

On the other hand, by posting the same images of these women in Western countries, the project allows everyone to feel concerned by their condition and connects, through art, the two different worlds."

Really intense and very moving.

Congrats are in order for JR who won the 2011 TED award.

Gymkhana 3 - Ultimate Playground; l'Autodrome, France

Ken Block is back with his beast of a car. Still the same deal as the first 2 videos, loads of awesome car stunts, and some advertising from DC shoes. The thing is I am always in awe of how he handles the car, its like they are part of each other.
Purely for the thrills!!!

Banksy's First Interview

Banksy is a graffiti/street artist who has been adding his own brand of art to London and Bristol since the early 90's. Although his works are illegal they have garnered an immense amount of interest from the public, and the art world. A wall featuring one of his stenciled works sold for 200,000 in 2008. Alway very secretive, his real identity remains unconfirmed to this day.

Here are a few of his works, and a link to this first ever interview

Röyksopp's Adventures in Barbieland

Röyksopp have been working hard promoting their much anticipated new album "Senior" (out Sept 13th) Its the follow up to the crittically acclaimed "Junior" that was released last year. The two albums were recorded at the same time and as Röyksopp explain they are meant to compliment each other
The two albums (’Junior’ and ‘Senior’) have a kinship, in that they represent Röyksopp’s two very different artistic expressions. ‘Junior’ – with emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas ‘Senior’ is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart – brimfull with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting “I’m old, I’ve got experince…”. Senior’ is furthermore an album about age, horses and being subdued – with devils breathing down your neck.
On that note I present Röyksopp's Adventures in Barbieland - A short film/music video in anticipation of their album launch. Its basically 10 minutes of bizarre Norwegian film making, but expertly done none the less, and with a catchy electronic sound.

Heres their first release Eple, just because I love the video and song so much.
They certainly do know how to create a catchy tune.

Tempus II

I have always been fascinated with high speed cameras. The beauty of objects in motion is often unseen to the naked eye at regular speeds, but with the help of the latest technology we can glimpse things at a fraction of the speed, often leading to mind blowing visuals and beautiful chaos.
Sit back enjoy this wonderful clip from Phillip Heron and James Adair.

Wow

A rather beautiful project has been colouring the world these past couple of months. The Let's Colour Project launched by French paint company, Dulux Valentine, is a project to paint public places (starting in Rio, London, Jodhpur, Marseille and coming up Istanbul) with a mission to spread colour wherever they go. Working together with local communities across these cities they are painting streets, houses and squares. Click here to learn more. And yes this was all done in camera!

To anyone who has ever sat through a surf movie

...and yes if you have ever gone out with a surfer that would be you...this has to be the coolest surf movie yet. It has all the elements of all the other surf movies including stealing the locals waves, but it is done in stopmotion with playmobile. And apparently the surf moves are all completely authentic. (ahem... i married a surfer) Excuse the crappy editing though...

Giant Coca Cola Man

Cratefan – designed for Coca-Cola by Porky Hefer of Animal Farm is made with 2500 standard Coke bottle crates.  It’s located in Newtown Joburg at the fan park and apparently Cape Town is due to get one as well.
Cratefan is a recycling initiative, created using a skeleton of scaffolding clad with around 2500 Coca-Cola crates. All the materials will be reused/recycled once he has finished celebrating.

Its a good question

A Tribute to Dennis Hopper

Saturday the 29th of May 2010 saw the passing of one of one of the worlds greatest actors. Its only fitting that we here at Underground post a tribute to Dennis Hopper's life in film. One of Hollywood's more troubled souls, he never failed to captivate an audience, and delivered performances that left you craving more. May you rest in peace and give heaven hell.

Great Commercial!

Amazing World Cup commercial... Agency: Wieden + Kennedy, Amsterdam.

Tilt-Shift Photography

This is a great example of the effects that can be achieved using a technique called tilt-shift photography. This is achieved using lenses with a limited depth of field. Because the focus is limited to the focus of the subject it gives the impression that what is taking place is actually a miniature. The perception that the images are miniatures is reinforced by cutting down the frame rate, as well as incorporating vast landscapes.

Sit back and enjoy!
